Md Ehteshamul Haque

Ehteshamul "Shamul" Haque is a technology and commercial transactions attorney who has served as legal counsel to some of the best-known companies in corporate America. He represents businesses and individuals in technology transactions, commercial contracts, and commercial lease matters, and he brings an uncommon pairing of legal and technical training to that work. In addition to his law degree, he holds two degrees in computer science, which let him read the technology behind an agreement as closely as the contract language itself.

Before opening his own practice, Shamul served as outside counsel to one of the world's largest hedge funds and worked in house at Hewlett Packard Enterprise and Verizon, where he handled complex software, cloud, and data matters. He began his legal career as an Attorney-Advisor at the U.S. Department of Justice, where he also served as a Deputy Designated Agency Ethics Official. He currently serves as outside general counsel to a national third-party risk management standards organization and teaches corporate law as an Adjunct Associate Professor at American University Washington College of Law.

Shamul is equally comfortable negotiating a multimillion-dollar agreement with a major cloud provider and walking an individual through a non-disclosure or employment agreement. He believes a lawyer is only as good as the outcome delivered to the last client, and he works to make sure every client's needs are fully met. He also believes that modern technology leaves no excuse for a lawyer to be difficult to reach, and he takes pride in his responsiveness and open communication.

Shamul is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and Virginia. He earned his law degree from Georgetown University Law Center and his undergraduate degree from the College of Wooster in Ohio, and he holds graduate degrees from the University of New Hampshire and the State University of New York at Binghamton. He lives in Northern Virginia with his wife and two daughters.
